Playboy To Update Sex Survey…Has Much Changed?

By Jacob Carson on January 05, 2011

Playboy has been in the news a lot lately with everyone’s favorite horny octogenarian Hugh Hefner getting engaged to another playmate.  I can only hope that when I am 85...what the hell am I talking about…I hope I can hit it with a playmate now.

With all of Hef’s antics, it would have been easy to overlook that the men’s magazine is updating its sexuality survey they first created 30 years ago. The anonymous survey asks questions about the sexual habits of people ranging from who you had sex with to whether it was with someone of the same gender.

I decided to take this little survey; it takes about 15 minutes to complete, and discovered that my sex life is incredibly boring. It’s not that I don’t have sex, i just don’t have it all that often and with different people. That’s something I would love to rectify, but I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I can only imagine the results that the survey uncovered back in 1980. We were just entering the big HIV scare and sex was still something to be done with abandon. At least, I think so... Okay I was 3. From my perspective, the world was filled with people dressed like Crocket and Tubbs who ordered cocaine by the kilo and listened to Billy Idol talk about a White Wedding.

Is 2010, all that different from 1980 sexually? I mean, sex is still recreational for many people and while bisexuality has become part of the mainstream, it was still popular in the 80’s. I am sure there were college roommates experimenting with sexuality in 1984; they were just wearing leg warmers and had big bows in their hair like the Material Girl.

What do you think? Has sexuality really changed since 1980?   My personal opinion is no. Sex has just become more public.
