Sex Tape Lands Indonesian Pop Star in Jail
Indonesian pop star Nazril “Ariel” Irham was recently sentenced to 3½ years in prison for not only making a sex tape, but not doing enough to keep it from the public. The sex tape depicting Irham and two top female celebrities, his girlfriend Luna Maya, and a television presenter Cut Tari (nice) leaked after a music editor acquired it from his hard drive and leaked it onto the internet. The courts sentenced Irham to jail time for violating the countries strict, and I do mean strict, anti-porn laws.
“Under the pornography law, anyone who produces, makes, copies, circulates, broadcasts, offers, trades, loans or provides pornography can be jailed for between six months and 12 years and can be fined up to six billion rupiah ($665,900).” (Reuters)
While Irham’s lawyer is appealing the decision, it is not looking good. According to the anti-porn law, the government can also fine or imprison parties who do not do enough to keep porn from getting on the street. Apparently, the court found that Irham broke the law by “giving the opportunity” for others to copy and distribute because the video was still on the hard drive when given to the editor. I can only imagine what would’ve happened if he had actually profited from it.
In fact, this video which was released sometime last year is one of the reasons why the Indonesian government has been advising for online filters for internet pornography as well as taking all pornographic material off of Blackberrys.
Imagine if the U.S. had some form of this law? Paris Hilton, Kendra Wilkinson and a host of other pseudo celebrities would be rotting in prison for getting balled on tape. These people made millions off the release of these tapes all the while saying they did all they could to keep it from the public eye. Irham was also fined $28,000.
